During our webinar, “Why Your Safety and Operations Aren’t Working Together: 3 Mistakes You’re Making,” our presenters discussed the common mistakes companies make when dealing with siloed departments, as well as strategies to align your Safety and Operations teams.
During the presentation, which you can watch a full recording of here, our presenters highlighted three things every fleet should understand about breaking down silos between departments:
#1: In the Long Run, Safety is as Key to Profitability as Operations Is
In an environment where Nuclear Verdicts are on the rise and even smaller claims are experiencing major inflation, a fleet cannot sustain itself long term without a careful eye toward safety. While it’s important to have a fast and efficient Operations department, fleet professionals must understand that it’s impossible to be fast and efficient when dealing with the turnover, stopped trucks, and liability that unsafe practices bring.
#2: Sharing Data Between Departments is Crucial to Improving Both Safety & Operations
An Operations team can benefit from seeing the accident, claims, and injury data that their Safety team is responding to. Similarly, a Safety team can benefit from seeing the delivery, engagement, and performance data an Operations team is responsible for. In sharing this data, Safety teams can make more informed decisions about how to improve safety without sacrificing performance, and vice versa.
#3: Disjointed Processes Between Departments Lead to Disjointed Results
Even if two departments’ goals are the same on paper, their results will not be if they don’t work hand-in-hand to accomplish those goals. Information, expertise, and experience are lost when a process is constantly handed off between departments. Instead, fleets should encourage their teams to work together on a goal from start to finish to find success.
How to Break Down Silos Between Departments
Implementing the advice above can seem difficult, but it doesn’t have to be with the right tools.
The Idelic Safety Suite® is the most comprehensive driver management platform in the trucking industry, consolidating all of a fleet’s disparate technology systems under a single platform. By bringing all fleet data into a single system, departments share data between themselves from all of their third-party systems, making the process of merging their workflows that much easier.
