3 Easy Tips: Are You Using Data to Retain Drivers for 2021?

Last week, Idelic hosted the webinar, “Are You Using Data to Retain Drivers in 2021?” where our presenters discussed how fleets can leverage the technology they already have to improve their driver retention rates.

During the webinar, which you can watch a full recording of here, our presenters highlighted three things every fleet should understand about engaging and retaining drivers:

#1: Use Data to Personalize Conversations with Drivers

Interactions between drivers and managers should be substantive and meaningful. When managers diligently monitor their driver’s data, they can use that data to inform their conversations with drivers and get more out of every interaction they have. As an example, a sudden, sharp change in a driver’s telematics alerts can show a manager that the driver may be having an issue they would benefit from discussing.

#2: Sharing Data with Drivers Can Set Your Fleet Apart

Often, drivers aren’t aware of the negative behaviors they display. Bringing drivers in for a meeting, showing them their performance data, and explaining how they can improve their behaviors can set your fleet apart. Drivers are likely to appreciate your fleet’s transparency with performance data and see the information as a motivating force they can use to enhance their safe driving skills.

#3: To Build a Retention Program, Fleets Need to Clearly Define Their Culture

Once a fleet’s executives have determined the type of culture they wish to pursue, it becomes much easier to structure a retention program for their fleet. They will understand what sacrifices they are willing to make and which principles they cannot compromise on. With this knowledge, they can build a retention program that aligns with their overarching goals and culture.

How to Implement These Tips

Implementing the advice above can seem difficult, but it doesn’t have to be with the right tools.

The Idelic Safety Suite® is the most comprehensive driver management platform in the trucking industry and is the premier tool for retaining drivers. With Safety Suite’s AI-powered Watch List, fleets can truly understand their driver data and use it to assign training, have personalized conversations with drivers, and enhance their retention by prevention strategies.
